Who Are You?

by Terri White

I have traveled through valleys, climbed mountains, staggered through deserts, and lounged in green meadows.  I have feasted from the fingertips of God and drunk cool water from His well.  I have experienced pain, loneliness, fear, failure, disappointment, joy, victory, contentment, and peace – all at the hands of God, all by His design, all for His purpose.  .  .

You see, beloved, at the “fall,” Adam forgot who he was.  And THAT is what has been passed down from generation to generation.  However, it was God’s intention – He set Adam up for the “fall.”  It’s all by design because God is, after all, sovereign.  He holds everything together.  He has a master plan.  That means that He weaves every decision we make into His master plan.  Sometimes the underside of the tapestry is messy because our decisions really stink. But that’s okay; God uses everything.  He’s the one who invented composting – taking garbage/waste and converting it into rich soil.  The conversion process, though, is hot and stinky.  We don’t like it; it’s messy and unpleasant, and it takes a long time.  The end result?  Pure gold, rich soil, a fruitful garden – whichever word picture you prefer.

So here we are on this earth, struggling.  Struggling to remember who we are.  Most don’t even understand what our earthly journey is all about, even Christians.  Or maybe especially Christians.  To cause you to remember who you are, God's master plan includes all of your struggles.  And who are you?  You are His, and have always been so.  You came from Him. He lives within you. He lives through you.  He lives as you.  That can’t be possible, you say because you think you’re a mess.  Dig deeper, and you’ll find the real you.  The Real You is Christ; that’s who God sees when He “looks” at you.  You are Him and He is you.  Indeed, He is the Head and you are a part of His Body.  He is The Vine and you are one of His branches.  Did you know that  a vine is just that – branches.  You are His beloved, and He cherishes you.

You can rest in Him, my beloved.  You can snuggle up into His strong, but gentle, arms and be safe.  Nestle, don’t wrestle.  And if you stumble, then you stumble right into His arms – always, every time.  It’s a new day.  A day of discovery.  A day of  peace.  A day of knowing.  It’s your day.
